Padma Awards are considered as one of the top-most civilian awards of India. It includes 3 categories which are Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan & Padma Shri. Padma Shri award 2020 is usually given to people for their distinguished service in any field, unlike the other two categories.
This prestigious award is given by President of India at an official function which is typically held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. This year saw 141 Padma awards that include 118 Padma Shri Awards to notable personalities. Eminent people from different fields such as Art, Medicine, Social work, Literature, Education & many more received the Padma Shri award 2020. 1). Javed Ahmad Tak: Recipient of Padma Shree award for Social work category. He has been providing free education, motivation & material aid to specially-abled children.
2). Jagdish Lal Ahuja: For more than 2 decades, “Langar Baba” as he is popularly known, has organized langars for poor patients for more than 20 years.
3). Satyanayana Mundayoor: He received the Padma Shri Award 2020 for developing 13 Bamboosa libraries & initiating a home library movement in Arunachal Pradesh.
4). S Ramakrishnan: He is a divyang social worker who is responsible for rehabilitating around 14,000 specially-abled people from a whopping 800 villages.
5). Yogi Aeron: He treats almost 500 patients for free every year, who include people suffering from burns & women from remote areas.
6). Mohammad Sharif: He is lovingly known as Chacha Sharif. He is known for undertaking last-rites of around 25,000 unclaimed bodies in the past 25 years.
7). Kushal Konwar Sarma: For the last 15 years, “Elephant Doctor” Kushal Konwar Sarma has treated & tamed close to 10,000 elephants.
8). Tulasi Gowda: She is known as “Encyclopedia of Forest” for having knowledge on varied species of herbs, plants & is responsible for planting thousands of trees. The surprising fact is that she had no formal education.
9). Trinity Saioo: A turmeric farmer by profession, she is motivating more than 800 women to produce the Lakadong turmeric & increase its popularity.
10). Harekala Hajabba: He is a fruit vendor who uses his entire earnings to provide education for poor children in his village.
